Happy Happy New Year to my loyal readers, you will notice changes in my site in the upcoming months along with new services provided!
2014 such a wonderful year of growth and development for me, I learned many valuable lessons. A slow start left me anxious for what was to come, by February I knew I needed to buckle up tight and make smart decisions. One decision that I now question was deciding to work under the devil……I needed to find work, and I sought out that work with the wrong desperate energy, landing myself in a position that lacked good leadership and management skills……when I say I worked under the devil, I’m NOT exaggerating. The saddest part of it all was witnessing and receiving all the negativity and disrespect that the devil led with such as, *hidden* (NOT) racism, awful communication skills, yelling/screaming and lack of self-awareness. Although I know when a person behaves like that it’s usually problems within themselves, but what I found really sad in this situation, is a person with a great platform to lead, and inspire ruined it by displaying their own insecurities and lack of self-love. The relationship came to a (grateful) non performance related “You're Fired” (the contract was over in 30 days anyway) I’m probably the only one who'd burst out laughing upon hearing those words, but the malicious delivery (over the phone) left me laughing my arse off and pitying that damaged soul.
In a few weeks I begin my last year of Grad school, with a major in execute leadership, and that experience has provided me with a real life lesson on what an effective leader looks like. Just because a CV reads of a long leadership history, it does not equate to the person actually being a good leader. I’ve been in a leadership role many, many years and never claim to know it all, which is why I’m continuing my education. Leadership can make or break the way a team works and produce outcomes, as a newbie to business development specifically in the corporate setting; that experience provided me with better understanding of business development, and improved my sales/marketing skills………and for that I'm grateful for working under the devil.
Moral of my post when you set out to grow, improve yourself and your knowledge base there will always be obstacles in human and non-human forms. It’s how you handle those obstacles that will determine your growth and eventually lead you down the next path. I’m beyond thrilled to no longer be in touch with the devil, and grateful for the lesson and the opportunities that have sense come my way.
