What an amazing year! At the start of 2015 I was entering a new phase in life one that came with a bit of fear, fear because the changes were actually taking me steps backwards or not moving me at all, the only forward move I continued to make was in my education. I’m get excited like a kid when I think about graduating in 2016 with my Masters! This time has passed so quickly, I can remember enrolling and thinking to myself this is going to take forever and now forever is just a stone's throw away. As soon as I let go of my fears of what would be in 2015 life began to really happen! I’ve been able to continue and advance my work with the youth population by partnering with the Adler Planetarium for Random Hacks of Kindness Jr. Working in The Schools (WITS), part-time school nursing, youth yoga and community initiatives, I’ve created the perfect recipe to manifest my youth health and wellness goals.
One of my professional goals this year was to network with like minded healthcare professionals. Invited to speak on the importance of creating a healthier lifestyle at the annual Chicago public school nurse luncheon in February and sharing my Five Minute Yoga Break, with nurses and other healthcare professionals, helped quell my fears as these opportunities were completely aligned with my mission to improve health and wellness across the lifespan. Being selected as a fellow for Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, a panel speaker for Movement is Life initiative, and as a press reporter at American Public Health Association annual conference, all provided the validation I needed to keep moving forward on my path. And then came the radio gig, it was exciting, dream come true, great experience, overall a great blessing, the most valuable lesson I learned from the radio gig, hands down is no matter how far we advance…...the Good Ol Boys still exist……and I moved on...
I’ve been a blogger since 2007, not always consistent but a blogger nonetheless, during that time I’ve been able to share my story, build my writing confidence and inspire others. Continuously I receive feedback on how my words have helped someone, thanking me for my words and asking for more. Late winter 2015 I made a personal commitment to write everyday…...everyday…...NO..….EVERYDAY!! I was inspired by my guided meditation series with Oprah and Deepak in March, they gave me the tools I needed to commit to writing, and being comfortable in sharing my writings. I began writing my afterthoughts post daily meditations, immediately I found it medicinal, I then followed my writing up with my personal yoga practice, this became an easy habit to develop because it left me feeling extremely balanced.
As the year sailed on and I remained committed to my daily writings I began to attract and manifest goals live dreams and experience what self love and self belief will do for a person. The invitation to teach yoga at the aldermans office this summer was a great surprise and blessing not only was I doing what I love, but I was doing it where I love….in my Community!! This opportunity also led to my partnership with the park advisory council allowing Yogatones to teach yoga and share wellness initiatives to my community members beyond the yoga mat, simply doing my part to create a healthy culture of health in my neighborhood and beyond. Along with creating a healthy physical community, I also believe social interactions play a very important role in creating a culture of health and wellness. My participation in community initiatives have also introduced me to some amazing, beautiful people, people I would otherwise not have any communication with….these people are my community members and neighbors. I believe in order to make changes in the world you must start in your community, change begins at home and trickles into your community, the more I’m out there the more I’m sure this is the way to break barriers, remove hate and judgments and improve health and wellness…..love thy neighbor, simple words but often not lived by.
Just to wrap it all up…….I enjoyed a much needed solo cycling season this year, I got to break in my ride and gain the endurance, speed and strength I was seeking, we are now one. I’m super excited to be graduating in June with my masters degree in executive nursing leadership and like most new graduates I have new goals post graduation that I’m excited about fulfilling but I’ve learned in life to quell my aggressive ambition and focus on a plan to attain these goals. One of the greatest lessons I learned this year was to keep goals and dreams that are in the developing, and birthing stages quiet, keep them off social media, off public cellphone conversations, instead share these special times with those in your offline world, those who really love and know you, those who will support, objectively criticize, guide and genuinely celebrate accomplishments with you.
Yogatones has some VERY exciting health and wellness initiatives coming up, and although I want to share them all now, I’ve decided to wait and share with you all post Delivery!! To all my peace and love spreading warriors, don't give up don't fall victim to negativity by those in constant conflict. Stay unique keep spreading peace, love and kindness. We are all delivered here with a unique purpose, and one thing I know for sure I’m a peace activist and will not be stirred or deterred by those in conflict…….Happy New Years Beautiful Loves!!
